Catalogue for the exhibition of the same name at the Kampa Museum in 2017, which presented Czech and Slovak art of the 1960s from the collections of the Museum and the Zlatá husa Gallery.
The 1960s are among the strongest periods of Czechoslovak art of the 20th century – a fortunate coincidence of favorable political and social circumstances that enabled the emergence of young creative personalities, suppressed by the previous Stalinist period – this incredible energy was reflected in contemporary literature, film, music and fine arts. The exhibition, whose title is inspired by one of Eduard Ovčáček's previously unknown paintings, depicting a head with too many teeth (as if everything, especially in the late 1960s, was really too much), will present all the key authors of the time: Václav Boštík, Stanislav Kolíbal, Adriena Šimotová, Milan Knížák and many others. Its structure will be based on important period themes – fear, grotesque, joy, 1968, disillusionment… After a long time, this exhibition project will show a comprehensive view of a strong and exceptional period, which is increasingly appreciated by both domestic and foreign audiences.
