Catalogue for the exhibition Wider World in the exhibition halls of the Municipal House in Prague in 2019, which presented more than 200 originals by the painter Zdeněk Burian, which gave viewers the opportunity to look into the colorful ends of worlds past, present and fictional.

The exhibition of Zdeněk Burian, which presents originals from private collections, is a testimony to the remarkable work of a truly remarkable artist, who managed to bridge the imaginary gap between "pure" art and mass art with his imagination and realistic style and became a permanent part of our cultural heritage.

The book divides Burian's work into thematic units, in which the artist's individuality was most clearly expressed. Individual chapters thus present illustrations for the legendary adventure stories of Jack London, Jules Verne, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Louis Stevenson, Karl May or Arthur Ransom, as well as gouache paintings for travel books by Enriqu Stanek Vráz or illustrations for science fiction titles by Vladimir Obručev and Ludvík Souček.

Free-form painting and book covers with features of exoticism and adventurous romanticism represent another area of Burian's work. Last but not least, it is possible to see a representative set of geographical works, Earth and People, conveying images of distant landscapes and their inhabitants to the audience. Visitors can also look forward to prehistoric pictorial reconstructions, which were created in collaboration with paleontologist Josef Augusta and which have enjoyed great interest from the audience for decades.
